One Month Til Lollapalooza!

ITS OFFICIALLY ONE MONTH TIL LOLLAPALOOZA!! Sorry for the all-caps enthusiasm but I’m just that excited! Why? Because exactly one month from today we’ll all be watching Bassnectar, Nero, Porter Robinson, Madeon, and Zedd tearing up Perry’s Tent!! And I’m sure that more than a few of you are looking forward to non-perry’s players Passion Pit, M83, and SBTRKT.

As for Friday’s aftershows, you could either see Madeon and Porter Robinson destroy The Mid (seriously, I’m worried they’re gonna tear the place to the ground) or Nero and Die Antwoord at the Congress (I’ll be at the latter since I’ll be missing Die Antwoord in favor of Madeon at Lolla).

Expect Bassnectar’s set to be packed and f***ing CRAZY! His last show in Chicago (at the Congress) sold out quicker than any other show on his tour. Why? Because Chicago is packed with more Bassheads than any other city!

But unfortunately some tough choices will have to be made (depending on what you’re into of course). If you like Passion Pit, be prepared to choose between them and Porter Robinson as well as getting a decent spot for Nero as they go 15 minutes into their set. Although no one looks forward to making choices like these it’s something we’ve come to expect from Lollapalooza. Year after year they put artists with similar fan bases against each other and sometimes it almost seems like they’re trying to make it as hard for you as possible. I’m sure that’s not what they’re doing but it sure feels like it!

Anyway, I hope you all have a kick ass time at the opening day of Lolla in ONE F%#$ING MONTH!!!

Tiesto, Aoki, Zedd and More @ Summerfest

The "World's Largest Music Festival" draws as
many as 1 million people each year

When you think of the 12 day music festival Summerfest, you normally don’t think of EDM… And you would be right. But this year Chicago’s neighbor to the north Milwaukee, will have some huge names… well… at least for one day.

I think this is photoshopped...
On Tuesday, July 3rd, Tiesto will be stopping by with his College Invasion tour. He will be joined by Steve Aoki, Zedd, Rehab, Tommy Trash, and Pierce Fulton.

They will be playing at the Marcos Amphitheater starting at 3pm. The downfall of this venue (as with most at Summerfest) is that it does not have much of a pit so keep that in mind if you plan on going.

DJ Mag Top 100 Voting Begins Today! (Voting Link Below)

DJ Magazine is once again taking your votes for the Top 100 DJs from all over the world!

Last years top spot went to David Guetta, knocking off 4-time number 1 DJ Armin Van Buuren. This was credited to the rise of house in recent years to arguably become more popular than trance. It will be interesting if this trend continues in this year's poll or if ASOT (A State of Trance) host Armin can take back the top spot.

Electric Forest This Weekend!

Electric Forest

A lot of Chicagoans will be making the trip up to Rothbury, Michigan this weekend to experience Electric Forest. And that’s exactly what this festival is… an experience! Unlike previous years, Electric Forest has a much more EDM heavy lineup, including headliners Bassnectar, STS9 (2 shows), and acts Girl Talk, Steve Aoki, Major Lazer, Dada Life…. Ok there are just way too many to list in one sentence!

Thankfully Electric Forest—which was founded in 2008 and went on hiatus in 2010—has realized how perfect it is for EDM. With the magical Sherwood Forest (a lighted forest with its own stage… seriously it feels like you’re in a dream) Electric Forest certainly has a rave vibe! Originally a jam band festival it still remains true to its roots with String Cheese Incident playing all 3 days to give you some variety (although who could get tired of dancing their face off in a forest that feels like it should be in a Harry Potter movie?)

Swedish House Mafia's Final Tour

RIP Swedish House Mafia
If you haven't already heard the bad news Swedish House Mafia has announced that this summer will be their last together.

Despite being bad news for the entire EDM community how does this pertain to Chicago?

Well, Axwell and Steve Angello have already been confirmed as part of the North Coast Fest lineup with the third and final wave set to be announced later this summer. Although by no means a sure thing, one can really get excited about one of Swedish House Mafia's final shows being right here in Chicago!
