Congress Theater goes 18+

Steve Aoki rafting the crowd at the Congress Theater
With what seems to be never-ending controversy surrounding the 86 year old Chicago landmark, the Congress Theater has chosen to make all events 18+.

This is bound to upset many, as there is a significant sized part of the EDM fan base that will no longer be able to attend. Many also wonder whether the move will really reduce any controversy as the age limit was only 17+ before.

EDC Chicago Official Announcement!

The first ever EDC Chicago will be over Memorial Day Weekend at Chicagoland Speedway
Its official! Electric Daisy Carnival Chicago will be at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet over Memorial Day weekend, May 24, 25, 26.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, January 23rd at 1e/12c PM for $175 for a regular 3-day pass. VIP tickets will go for $299.

The festival will go from 2pm-2am all three days and is 18+.

One of the more unique and exciting firsts for EDC will be the opportunity to buy overnight camping tickets. This is likely, in part, due to the lack of hotels in the Joliet area. These tickets will start at $295.

The project of Diplo was formed in 2009 with British DJ Switch before they separated in 2011. Dragonette and The Mid resident Zebo will be opening. I don't know what to expect of the show but here's hoping to a lot of daggering. Electric Daisy Carnival: CHICAGO!

EDC Chicago 2013

A few months ago, I wrote a post on  why Insomniac Events should bring ElectricDaisy Carnival to Chicago and now it looks like what was once a dream is becoming a reality. The owner of InsomniacPasquale Rotella posted this picture on Instagram with the blurb “Calling all Chicago Insomniacs... A very special announcement is coming to a computer or phone near you”, strongly hinting at an overdue Chicago edition of America’s largest EDM festival.

The movement to bring EDC to Chicago started over the summer when the Twitter page @EDCChicago was started, encouraging followers to tweet Pasquale and Insomniac about bringing EDC to Chicago. The campaign quickly showed progress when Pasquale messaged the page saying he’d “love to [bring EDC to Chicago]” asking "who is the legit dance promoter in Chicago that already has a proper festival. Now, a few months later, the campaign seems to have been an enormous success.

With EDC Chicago rumored to be scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend, Chicago EDM fans are waiting anxiously for an official announcement from Insomniac. I will keep you up to date with the latest information regarding EDC developments as well as making future posts speculating as to the venue and lineup of the festival.
