Steve Aoki, 12th Planet, R3hab at the Congress Theater on December 15th
Steve Aoki will be headlining a sold out show at Chicago’s
Congress Theater tomorrow with 12th Planet and R3hab.
The California-based producer and Dim Mak Records founder is
known for his wild shows which include rafting the crowd, cake and lots of champaign.
Opening for Aoki is dubstep producer 12th Planet and Dutch house DJ
R3hab.
Insomniac Events has officially announced that Electric
Daisy Carnival will be making a stop in Chicago on its way to Las Vegas! Ending
weeks of speculation, Insomniac has said that the details of the festival,
including dates and venue, will be announced on 1/16/13.
Electric Daisy Carnival Chicago details to be announced on 1/16
It is widely believed that EDC Chicago will take place over
Memorial Day Weekend but there is no clear front-runner as to venue. Possible choices
include Toyota Park, Soldier Field, Chicagoland Speedway, and Grant Park.
A few months ago, I wrote a post on why Insomniac Events should bring ElectricDaisy Carnival to Chicago and now it looks like what was once a dream is
becoming a reality. The owner of Insomniac, Pasquale Rotella posted this picture on Instagram with the
blurb “Calling all Chicago Insomniacs... A very special announcement is coming to a computer or phone near you”, strongly hinting at an overdue Chicago edition of America’s largest
EDMfestival.
The movement to bring EDC to Chicago started over the summer
when the Twitter page @EDCChicago was started, encouraging followers to tweet
Pasquale and Insomniac about bringing EDC to Chicago. The campaign quickly
showed progress when Pasquale messaged the page saying he’d “love to [bring EDC to Chicago]” asking "who is the legit dance promoter in Chicago that already has a proper festival”. Now, a few months later, the campaign seems to have been an
enormous success.
With EDC Chicago rumored to be scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend, Chicago EDM fans are waiting anxiously for an official announcement
from Insomniac. I will keep you up to date with the latest information
regarding EDC developments as well as making future posts speculating as to the
venue and lineup of the festival.
Chicago-based DJ duo Flosstradamus have been banned by the Chicago Police Department from
playing Mad Decent Block Party this August because (I kid you not) the crowd went too wild at their set at West Fest.
Flosstradamus released the following statement on their
Facebook:
“BAD NEWS: so CPD is saying our set at West Fest almost caused a "riot" so they've had us removed from the Mad Decent Block Party.
I'm extremely upset about this, but will refrain from going on any rants or tirades. Just know that we have you on our back Chicago, and we'll be back VERY SOON!”
Mad Decent Block Party is set to take place on August 18th on Milwaukee Ave from 12-10.
I think it goes without saying that everyone in the Chicago area would love to have the legendary Electric Daisy Carnival right here in the Windy City! But in case Insomniac Events needed some reasons to bring EDC to the Second (to none) City here are just a few:
1. It’s the center of the Midwest in every sense of the word
(geographically, culturally, etc.) Most importantly it is the geographical
center which makes it ideal for all in the Midwest to make the trip up for EDC. It is in between Milwaukee, St. Louis,
Indianapolis, and Madison. As if you even need those in surrounding cities to
attend with the…
2. 10 Million people in the Chicago metro area alone. Chicago
is a huge city with bigger (more populous) suburbs. Its pretty much doubtless
that an EDC Chicago would sell out
in minutes due to its…
3. Huge EDM scene.
Which is shown by countless sold out shows at the Congress Theater, a perpetually packed Perry’s Tent at Lollapalooza,
and 3 new EDM festivals announced
this year alone (Spring Awakening, Wavefront, and most recently FSDM). And all of these festivals prove
Chicago has…
4. Amazing venues! The only problem Insomniac Events would have is choosing exactly which venue to put Electric Daisy Carnival! They
could put it in and around Soldier Field
as Spring Awakening did, Grant Park as Lollapalooza does every year, or Toyota Park as the new FSDM
will be. I would put my money on Soldier
Field (as this is where ReactPresents had their festival and they are the most likely choice for a
promotional partner) but Grant Park
would be an incredible location and definitely has the space!
Hopefully this summer we'll see Electric Daisy Carnival in Chicago in 2013! Let Pasquale Rotella (head of Insomniac) know how much you want to see an EDC Chicago!
Avicii and Kaskade will both be playing Lollapalooza aftershows at Chicago'sStudio Paris!
They are both likely to sell out in minutes (and be crazy expensive) as this is one of Chicago's more intimate venues but if you are one of the lucky ones who can get a table more power to you!
Tiesto and Dada Life have announced a show at UIC Pavilion
in Chicago on October 13th later this year. The show is part of
Tiesto’s millionth installment of his College Invasion Tour.
Floor tickets are on sale for $52 with Mezzanine and Balcony
tickets on sale for $42 and $37 respectively.
Yet another EDM
festival is coming to Chicago!
The company Aura Presents, along
with Aragon Ballroom, has announced
that the Future Sound Dance MusicFestival will be coming to Toyota
Park (Home of the Chicago Fire)
in Bridgeview over Memorial Day Weekend.
They have announced that the festival will feature 4 stages,
over 60 artists and they anticipate a crowd of 40,000. They have also announced
that the line-up will be released as follows:
Phase 1: August
25th, 2012
Phase 2: November
1st, 2012
Phase 3 (Final
Announcement): January 15th, 2013
No word yet on who will be headlining but Aura Presents has confirmed that it
won’t be Skrillex (Completely
serious, they really announced that).
Sunday has always
been a huge day for EDM at Lollapalooza and this year is no
different. Perry’s will close out
its day with Doctor P, Big Gigantic, Zeds Dead, and then Chicago
native Kaskade! Could you ask for a
better way to end the weekend?!
Dubstep icon, Doctor P comes on midday to bring the
tent down followed by electronic jam
band Big Gigantic to start
one of the biggest raves of the weekend. After that, Zeds Dead will melt faces in preparation for house legend Kaskade.
Following his legendary set at Coachella, expectations are high for Kaskade’s set in not only his hometown, but the birthplace of house, Chicago. Playing across the park from Kaskade will be French electronic duo… Justice (I was hoping for the other French electronic duo too). This will undoubtedly
be a hard choice for many in the Chicago
EDM scene but my prediction is that the young crowd will pack Perry’s Tent for their hometown hero.
So what act are you guys most excited to see at Lolla this year?
Saturday features two of the biggest names in house, Calvin Harris and Avicii. With hits such as Seek Bromance, Fade Into Darkness
and, most recently, Silhouettes,Avicii is so much more than Levels (but that will stop
him from playing it). His festival set features a giant (and somewhat creepy) head from which he DJs on top of. It made its debut at this year’s Coachella and will be sure there in Grant Park this year. Before him, at Perry’s, Calvin Harris will be bringing the tent down with house hits like Feel So Close, Let’s Go, and Bounce.
Aside from the big name producers, Perry’s will also feature PaperDiamond, UK dubstep duo Skream & Benga, and Salva. I think it’s clear there will be
no shortage of dubstep at Lollapalooza this year. There will also
be a notable amount of hip-hop at Perry’s on Saturday with B.o.B and Star Slinger…. I'd cover them more but this isn's a hip-hop blog.
The ENTIRE North
Coast Music Festival lineup has been released! And there will be two EDM headliners joining Pretty Lights. They are Girl Talk and STS9! Of course we can’t forget 2/3 of Swedish House Mafia, Axwell
and Steve Angello. Other EDM monsters include Knife Party, Steve Aoki, Alesso and
so many more!
North Coast Fest
has also announced that the Groupon
Silent Disco has been expanded to fit over 200 fans in a dome which is sure
to be a unique experience for all involved.
More to come on North Coast Fest as we get closer to the
date!
But until then here’s a little preview of what to expect:
